Elmer the Elephant by Mrs. Foster’s Class

Elmer the elephant was born a gray elephant just like the other elephants.  But he did not like being plain old gray.  So one day he asked his friend giraffe, “What is your favorite color?”  “Blue,” said giraffe.  “How about you, tiger, what is your favorite color?”  “I like green,” said  tiger.  Penguin said her favorite color was pink and monkey liked brown.  Bunny thought white was a nice color and lion said orange was the only color he liked.  All the mice agreed that yellow was really cool.  Elmer liked all the colors his friends suggested so he got his markers out and used all the colors on his body.  “Now I’m the most colorful elephant in the jungle!  Im happy!!”

11/20/09 Dalton learned how to write his name for the first time!!!!

We are really working hard at learning how to write our names.   We are using the Handwriting without tears and we are modifying it for our classroom.  We use long sticks and short sticks, big bridges and small bridges.  In Daltons name he has a long stick for his D and a large or big bridge.   For his a he has two small bridges and a small stick.  A long stick for his l, a long stick and a short stick for his t and two small sticks and a small bridge for his n.  I know the verbage is a little confusing, however it is working for this group.  I will get to everyone and soon they will all be writing their names by themselves.  Yea!!!

Our other projects also deal with the five senses.- jingle bell necklaces, countdown to Christmas with Santa, homemade cinnamon playdough.

Celebrating St. Patrick's Day was fun because we had a very tricky leprechaun loose in the classroom on Wednesday and Thursday. He turned our milk green, moved our backpacks and played other tricks so we couldn't get his pot of gold from him.  But he did trade his stash of goodies for his pot of gold so we had a good treat each day.
